It can be useful when you want quick watering and tidy storage without a loose hose on the ground. For a small yard, choose the shortest model that comfortably reaches all beds and corners; unnecessary hose length adds weight and storage bulk.

Measure the route from the tap to the farthest watering point and add practical allowance for corners and obstacles. Avoid buying much more than needed because a longer hose is heavier and can increase flow loss compared with a shorter hose of the same diameter.

A 1/2 in hose is lighter and easier to handle for routine watering, while a 5/8 in hose generally carries more water for larger yards or higher-demand tasks. Choose by required flow, reach and ease of handling rather than diameter alone.

Before freezing weather, shut off the water, disconnect the supply and drain the hose and reel completely. Store the unit indoors when the manual recommends it; if it remains outside, use a compatible cover and protect it from trapped water, ice and snow.
